Overview
The Build Your Education Curriculum is designed for flexible, mixed-age learning environments such as microschools, hybrid academies, homeschooling cooperatives, and homeschool. Rooted in inquiry-based and project-based learning, each level provides a structured yet adaptable framework that empowers educators to guide students while fostering independence, curiosity, and critical thinking.
Our curriculum is built around three distinct learning levels that align with student development stages, not rigid grade bands. This structure allows teachers to facilitate multi-age classrooms seamlessly while homeschool families and pods can adapt lessons to fit the needs of individual learners.
Level 1: Foundations (Grades K–2)
At this stage, students build the core foundations of literacy, numeracy, and curiosity-driven exploration. Lessons emphasize hands-on activities, storytelling, and guided discovery to help children understand the “why” behind concepts, not just the “what.” Teachers and parents are provided with clear scaffolding to introduce new ideas while encouraging early independence.
-
Focus: Numbers, letters, patterns, storytelling, and observation of the world.
-
Approach: Gentle introduction through guided activities, games, and projects.
-
Target Use: Ideal for microschools with younger mixed-age groups and for families who want a simple, structured path that keeps learning joyful and developmentally appropriate.
Level 2: Explorers (Grades 3–5)
As students mature, the curriculum shifts toward building strong academic skills alongside deeper inquiry and problem-solving. Learners begin to connect knowledge across subjects, practicing communication, writing, and collaborative thinking.
-
Focus: Multi-step problem solving, expanded reading comprehension, written communication, and project-based exploration.
-
Approach: Structured lessons paired with inquiry questions and group projects that encourage collaboration and presentation skills.
-
Target Use: Perfect for microschools running one-room style classrooms where middle elementary learners can tackle core subjects together while working at individual skill levels.
Level 3: Innovators (Grades 6–8)
At this level, students transition from guided learning to independent inquiry and applied knowledge. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, research, writing, and communication, preparing students for high school and beyond.
-
Focus: Analytical thinking, research projects, multi-source learning, and communication through essays, presentations, and debates.
-
Approach: Students explore topics deeply, present findings to peers, and engage in inquiry-driven projects that mirror real-world applications.
-
Target Use: A strong fit for microschools and co-ops with mixed middle school groups, giving teachers a structured but flexible plan for independent and group learning.
